One of the great things about Atsushi Onita’s personal playground, FMW is that a lot of the craziest performers to wrestle for the organization were fine wrestlers before anything. So while a guy like The Gladiator (Mike Awesome) or Hayabusa could have some great hardcore matches they could also showcase some good, clean wrestling skills.
This match in particular makes Awesome look good. He convincingly sells punishment from a much smaller wrestler. Particularly you have to love the incredibly loud f-bomb Awesome drops when Hayabusa is working over his arm. Awesome also hits some incredible top rope moves for a guy his size! A couple more and maybe he would have pounded Hayabusa’s face into mashed potatoes after all! The match is less kind to Hayabusa who botches a shooting star press.
