Satoshi Kojima vs. “The Iron Man” Rob Conway
Prior to this match Satoshi Kojima had defeated “The Iron Man” Rob Conway on two separate occasions, including a victory that gained Kojima the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. This match was held by the NWA sanctioned Vendetta Pro Wrestling (VPW) at their VPW Casino Royale 2014: Night 2 show in front of members of the Cauliflower Alley Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It is fitting that this match happened in Las Vegas because given the history between the two the stakes were certainly high for Conway. After a bunch of scientific wrestling Kojima lets loose with some stomps, which cheeses Conway off and gets him to hit a back elbow off the ropes. Kojima gives a few chops, but this doesn’t phase Conway who gives Kojima a closed fist that senior official James Beard fails to see.
Kojima may have missed one opportunity for a chopfest, but before the bell rings he gets in a vicious one.
In short order Kojima hits a top rope elbow, but this doesn’t put Conway away. The two start slugging it out and after a pose down Conway delivers a spinebuster and a neckbreaker, but neither move polishes off the Japanese veteran. The two take off their elbow pads to let the crowd know they mean business. Say what you will about the current NWA, but VPW did a wonderful job of making this feel like a big match and Kojima is a great champion in any promotion.
