Indie Flashback: Leo Pratt Faces Jay “The Warship” Bailey at SHWA Running Wild 2012

by Daniel Johnson

Leo Pratt vs. Jay “The Warship” Bailey

Leo Pratt is a four year veteran of wrestling who chiefly wrestles for Explosive Pro Wrestling (EPW) based out of Perth, Western Australia, Australia. Pratt was trained by fellow EPW wrestler, Davis Storm who has been a fixture on the Western Australia independent scene since the early 2000s. Pratt has also had some good showings in other Western Australia companies such as this match from the Southern Hemisphere Wrestling Alliance (SHWA). Pratt’s opponent, Jay “The Warship” Bailey won the SHWA Championship just a few months after this bout happened at SHWA Running Wild 2012 and just recently returned to the promotion.

Bailey comes out with a Guy Fawkes mask looking like he just got back from an Occupy movement event. In contrast to this Pratt enters wearing a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shirt. It is pretty rad ring gear though it reminds me of how Donatello didn’t always have good luck.

Pratt tricks Bailey to start the match by running out of the ring and then stomping Bailey when the two go back inside. There is a bit of unintentional hilarity when Pratt is chopping Bailey. During one of the chops he slows way down, but Bailey still sells it as if the chop had been performed viciously. Bailey turns the tables and his chops are legitimately performed viciously.

Despite a heckler yelling, “Warship? More like bore-ship” the match has a pretty fast pace. At one point Pratt tries to end the bout with a figure four, but this young babyface doesn’t have Tully Blanchard, Arn Anderson or Ole Anderson to assist him. As such the tide soon turns in Bailey’s favor when he doesn’t submit.

For the finish Bailey puts Pratt away with his Sun Tzu driver finisher.

The full match can be seen right here:

The next SHWA show will be SHWA Breaking Ground 2015 on January 31 in Swan View, Western Australia, Australia. Click here for more information.
