Jon Moxley vs. Brodie Lee
Last night Dean Ambrose and Luke Harper were ridiculously booked in unbelievable handicap matches at WWE TLC: Tables Ladders & Chairs (2013). Yet, in 2010 they were still assaulting other wrestlers on the independent scene as Jon Moxley and Brodie Lee, respectively. As such when the two faced off at EVOLVE 4: Danielson vs. Fish it was bound to be brutal.
Moxley opens with a dropkick, but the two soon move into a chopping challenge. Despite being the smaller man Moxley comes out on top…at least until Brodie kicks him in the face with a big boot. It is a little tough to feel sympathetic to Moxley (especially given how mean he was to poor chubby Sami Callihan), but Lee looks like a brute in this one. It is tough to honestly tell how stiff a match is, but this one looks more than stiff enough and the EVOLVE crowd eats it up. Brodie clotheslines Moxley out of the ring then chops Moxley on the ring post only for one chop to hit nothing but ring post! Brodie is still one of the baddest men to ever draw inspiration from the always insane Bruiser Brody so Lee continues to go toe to toe with Moxley. Eventually the two end up back in the ring, but not for long as both men bring in chairs. The referee throws out the match and starts arguing with Moxley. Lee takes advantage of this distraction and knocks a chair right into Moxley’s face. Well, neither man won technically, but the victor of the battle is quite clear.
Since this was the opener of EVOLVE 4: Danielson vs. Fish only about three years ago it is impressive that both men are now on the main roster of the largest promotion in the world. Ambrose and Harper may be booked silly at times, but their advancements in recent years speak to their continually developing talents. It is also interesting to look at the main eventers of that same event. While Bryan Danielson aka Daniel Bryan is the most over guy on the WWE roster, Bobby Fish isn’t even signed to the company. Then again given how poorly Bryan has been used recently, Fish may be the lucky one.
